Women & Gender Conference

Announcements, Conferences & Events,

APRIL 25, 2025 12-5:00 pm EDT

The Catholic Biblical Association is proud to present the schedule for its first Women and Gender online conference on April 25, 2025. The purpose is to support our membership's wide variety of scholarship, methodologies, and identities. To kick off this new initiative, we will be hosting a half-day conference in April. We call it an “appetizer” because we expect it will leave us hungry for more. To that end, we plan to host a longer conference in 2026.

We will have two 2-hour sessions during the afternoon of April 25, followed by time for informal conversation and visioning:

  • The first session, from 12-2 PM, is comprised of CBA member papers that explore the intersection of gender (defined broadly) and the Bible in the ancient world. There will be two tracks for this session: one focusing on OT and Second Temple papers, and the other on NT and the Greco-Roman World.
  • The second session, from 2:30-4:30, presents the work of the new initiative LEAF (Literary, Ecological, and Feminist), organized by Rhiannon Graybill and Elaine James, which fosters feminist and ecological approaches to biblical literature. This session features a panel of 6 short presentations, followed by a roundtable discussion for everyone attending.
  • We will end the afternoon with a short networking and imagining session to get input about a larger conference next Spring. If you are not able to make it to that part of the conference, please forward any ideas you might have to Corrine Carvalho.
