Tenure Track: Professor of Biblical Studies

Saint Paul University is a Catholic, bilingual (French and English), teaching and research university dedicated to the promotion of social transformation and the common good. The Faculty of Theology welcomes faculty and students from diverse ecclesial communities. It offers programs at the undergraduate, master, and doctoral levels for students preparing for a variety of ministries in the service of the Church and society.
The Faculty of Theology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track teaching position in Biblical Theology.
Responsibilities:
- Undergraduate and graduate teaching.
- Supervision of graduate students at the master and doctoral levels.
- Contribute to the development of programs and activities for the faculty.
- Research and publication.
- Participate in various administrative committees at the Faculty and University levels.
Experience:
- Significant teaching experience in fields such as biblical exegesis, biblical theology, hermeneutics, plural readings of the biblical texts, interdisciplinary approaches, etc.
- Teaching experience in an ecumenical environment will be an important asset.
- Demonstrated experience in developing new courses with innovative content related to current issues.
- Knowledge and experience of various online teaching methods.
- Knowledge and awareness of the issues related to pedagogy and student assessment.
- Demonstrated ability for collegial collaboration and teamwork.
Qualifications:
- Doctorate in Biblical studies covering aspects of both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures. (Expertise in intertestamental literature, early Christian literature, and the Apocrypha is an asset).
- Knowledge of a variety of Biblical methods of interpretation in dialogue with other disciplines in social sciences and theology.
- Knowledge of various types of readings and approaches to the biblical text, including, but not limited to feminist readings, decolonial approaches, queer readings, ecological and environmental readings, etc.
- Strong record of research and publication and, ideally, have a developed research agenda.
- Ability to offer courses in English and French.
A suitable candidate who fulfils the requirements but is not fully fluent and able to teach in both French and English at the time of hiring may be hired on a short-term contract (up to three years). Renewal of the contract and transfer to a tenure track position would be conditional on developing the ability to successfully teach in both French and English after the end of the initial contract.
Rank, salary, and tenure are based on experience and the Collective Agreement.
