Unbound Book Review of Malka Z. Simkovich's
Letters from Home:
The Creation of Diaspora in Jewish Antiquity
CBA’s series of free virtual events draw together scholars from diverse fields to discuss a recent publication through reflections on specific questions.
In this Unbound Book Review, we will gather to reflect on Simkovich’s work with the following questions: “Was there a concept of Jewish diaspora before the word was used in texts? ” “How do letters represent a larger population as evidence for ancient communities?” “How do written texts reveal the identity of a people group?”
After a brief introduction of the book by Simkovich, we will welcome reflections from Ben Wright, Daniel R. Schwartz, and Rabbi Joshua D. Garroway.
