CBA welcomes two Unbound Reviews in January 


CBA’s series of free virtual events draw together scholars from diverse fields to discuss a recent publication through reflections on specific questions.

Daniel After Babylon: The Additions in the History of Interpretation

In this Unbound Book Review, we will gather to reflect on Grillo’s work with the following questions: "How is Reception History useful to the study of biblical literature?" “What do different mediums (liturgy, hagiography, visual art) bring to the interpretation of scripture?” and “Does the Book of Daniel look different when read with these additional sources?”

After a brief introduction of the book by Grillo, we will welcome reflections fromKevin Zilverberg, Alexandria (Xandy) Frisch, and Anathea Portier-Young.

The First Christian Letters: Reading 1 and 2 Thessalonians

In this Unbound Book Review, we will gather to reflect on  Rodríguez’s work with the following questions: “How do Paul’s reflections in the Letters to the Thessalonians shape the first-century CE social boundaries?” “How does an apocalyptic perspective affect Paul’s everyday concerns and our own?”

After a brief introduction of the book by Rodríguez, we will welcome reflections from J.P. O’Connor, Carlos A. Garcia Alayon, and John Dunne.
