David J. Trobisch - Museum of the Bible, Washington, D.C.
"Early Reformation Bibles: Changes in the Text and Format of the Christian Scriptures"
The Reformation introduced editions of the Christian Bible that parted from the long tradition of Orthodox and Catholic Bibles. By insisting that Hebrew and Aramaic was the source language of the Old Testament and Greek the source language of the New Testament, Protestant editions differ in number of writings, arrangement, and text from ancient and medieval manuscripts. The presentation will show images of artifacts documenting the development that started 500 years ago.
