2013 Annual Meeting - New Program Format
Feb. 26, 2013
TO ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE CATHOLIC BIBLICAL ASSOCIATION
This year, in response to feedback from the Annual Meeting, we will have "Consultations" in the place of the Simultaneous Sessions during the one time-slot: Sunday 11:00-12:00. (In future years we may wish to extend them over 2 or 3 days).
Consultations are meant to give members the opportunity to explore timely issues and topics, outside the formally exegetical model, allowing an initial foray into a topic that may prove generative (as in becoming a future Continuing Seminar, Task Force, or Group Project).
The time-length for a Consultation will be 60 minutes (slightly longer than for a Research Report) and it can be offered by an individual member of CBA or a team of members.
Examples of the different types of formats Consultations make take are as follows:
1) Presentation with discussion of pedagogical methods or important new resources
E.g., "New Computer Resources for Courses in the Bible" or "A New Approach to Introduction to the Prophets" (or it could be new approaches to the NT or Exegesis)
2) Review or Reviews of an important new text or texts
E.g., Two reviews of the Jewish Annotated New Testament (NY: Oxford 2011) with discussion.
3) Workshop on a pastoral application of biblical scholarship
E.g., "Scripture Requirements in the Seminary Curriculum" or "Evaluation of Popular Resources for Parish Bible Study."
Other sorts of workshops are possible. If you have an alternative theme, simply describe it clearly and it will be considered.
Applications should be sent following the same format and to the same address as for Research reports (i.e. less than 100 words describing the session, sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).
