Visiting Professorships to Rome and Jerusalem
[Note: This award program is temporarily suspended, but will hopefully be restored in the future.]
The CBA sponsors visiting professorships at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and at the École Biblique in Jerusalem. The term for each is one semester, fall-winter or winter-spring. The courses are taught in English.
The CBA provides a stipend of $20,000 plus round-trip air fare. The institutions in Rome and Jerusalem furnish room and board. The visiting professor at the École Biblique is entitled to free participation in all the field trips.
The conditions for application are as follows:
- Applicants must be active members of the CBA.
- The application deadline is November 1.
- Applications do not carry over from year to year but may be resubmitted.
- The following information should be included with the application:
- name of the institution for which application is made, and semester during which one proposes to teach;
- course(s) one is prepared to teach; for the Ecole Biblique, the course(s) should not overlap with those normally being taught there;
- brief curriculum vitae;
- present academic position and rank;
- published books and articles for the previous five years, and anything significant before then.
The institutions themselves make the choice from candidates submitted by the committee.
Letters of application, along with all supporting documents mentioned above, should be sent to the Chair of the Committee on Visiting Professors.
